Trove 소개 및 기본 개념 (Introduction to Trove)

In this session we're going to talk about Trove for students. We're gonna go into the student side of Trove and see what it looks like for them. We're also gonna go back into the teacher side and see where the magic happens, where what you do on the teacher side affects the student side. So as we get started, it's so important to, again, just have a good picture of where we're coming from, what we've offered, how this looks now, and how Trove is arranged. So if you have used our products at all, you know that digital products are not new. We've had eText for students in the past. We've also even had interactive books for students where they can actually do their assignments in their ebook for teachers. We've had digital resources and ways to make custom assessments as well as a professional development site and even a teacher community. All that is coming into one in Trove. But what's so exciting is that we have added that additional element of a teacher student connection, something we have not had in the past and now teachers and students for the first time can connect in a digital environment.

Trove의 교사-학생 연결 방식 (How Teacher-Student Connection Works in Trove)

As a reminder, the teacher side has all the instructional resources for teachers, their eBooks, their own copies of their eBooks, as well as test banks. You say, okay, now how do I break down that wall and connect with my students in Trove? So the connection with students is all tied to a digital product purchase. You don't need to buy a license and a product. All you have to do is buy a product. In this example, we have a student edition. This would be an E-text. When this is purchased for a student, it drops in that student's trove account and as you can see over here, something else dropped in as well. And that's on the teacher side. These are the questions from this book. Those questions will appear in a digital format on the teacher side of tro, so the teacher can customize that and push those out to the students digitally. Another example is with an activity manual. We have a lot of different questions in our activity manuals and those all show up here on the teacher side of Trove for the teachers to customize and then push out digitally. All meanwhile, the students are looking at their book in Trove. They have a beautiful ebook that they're working with. They can highlight take notes. We're gonna talk about all that, but that is how they interact. Now there's one other digital product and those are e assessments. And as you notice, they land on the teacher side and not on the student side. On the teacher side, they can take those e assessments, customize them and push them out to the students.

The key is the content. So you can create as many student accounts as you want, but they are inactive until you add content to them. So you make a purchase of a digital product when you make a purchase that goes to your trove administrator's account, the trove administrator pushes it to the teacher and then whenever the teacher's ready that gets pushed out to the students and that is what wakes up those student accounts and makes that connection possible.

Speaking of the student account, let's go there. So to get there, use the same exact path as you do as a teacher or an administrator, www.bjpresstrove.com. Once you get there it there's where they would log in using their username and password. Or if you are using a true single sign-on, we have already partnered with Class Link and Google Classroom and you can connect that way and just limit the number of logins and passwords that your students and teachers have to keep straight as they're logging into your different platforms.

EN: So once we get into the student accounts, you can see it in the background there and I've kind of enlarged um, the areas that we're gonna really focus on because this is where the students will be. There are four main areas, library assessments, calendar and notifications, and this is where they live.

So let's dig into those. First of all, the library. Now if you see in the very middle of the page there, the library has two areas, class files and shared files. The way to keep that straight class files think publisher created from the teacher library. So these are resources that are part of the teacher materials and they have pushed out to the students PowerPoints, videos, instructional aids, even their textbooks. So to access that, the teacher or the student would just need to click on the book and there they can interact with their ebook in trove. Going back to the library, I can click there and this is an instructional aid and as a student I can interact with that right here. So I can add text, I can highlight, underline, um, I can draw, I can add images. There are all sorts of things that I can do and it saves all of this until I use the eraser to erase it. So even next time when I come in, it's going to be there. Now it's important to note that this is not where students complete their assignments and turn them in. This is their library. So they're looking and interacting but they are not doing assessments here.

Alright, let's go back to the student library and we did class files. Now let's shift to shared files. These files are something that was shared from the teacher's, my uploads library. Now if you remember, that's custom content. So these may be things that the teacher found somewhere like a news article or a map might be something that the teacher created here such as a syllabus that the teacher wants to share out and the teacher would do that from the my uploads area.

학생 기능 2: eText 및 eActivity 매뉴얼 (Student Feature 2: eText & eActivity Manuals)

We're gonna loop back and talk more about eText later on, but I did want to point out here some of the main features that students will have in their eText. Of course the table of contents is dynamic so they can go down, click on the unit or the section they want to go to and when they click on it, they'll be taken there Under the bookmark area, they can track where they have placed bookmarks. Bookmarks are in th e upper right hand corner of each page. Turn them on or off and then they can be tracked by date or by page number. Same thing with notes. Students can add tight notes onto their pages by clicking in the top right on that little plus sign on the paper, indicate where on the page they'd like it and then type out their note. Then when they go to the left hand side and click notes, it's gonna show them where all those notes are in the book. And once again with highlighting same thing, I'm gonna click and drag just basic highlighting when I do that in the upper right-hand corner, I'm gonna see my highlighter appear where I choose my colors underlining full highlighting.

It said that I could listen to it be spoken, I could look it up in a dictionary or I could also have it translated. So you can see my list of different languages there. I can select a language and it's going to translate it into text and then it will also even read it to me in that language.

Under settings, I can choose to view pages in one page or two page spreads. The help section is actually very helpful. It's very basic but really helpful. I can navigate my pages by using the arrows on the side or go down to that waffle menu there and navigate by two page spreads up in the upper right I can zoom in, I can zoom out, I can go full screen and get rid of kind all the extras on the page. I can also use annotation tools to write on my book. This is free handwriting, free hand highlighting. I can choose my color. You can also use right there in the center of the page, the navigation box to actually type in a page number and get there quickly.

As I mentioned, e activity manuals are also available so students have a access to these if you purchase them for them. Obviously. I wanted to point out the last book we looked at had more of a mature look. This is more of the primary look for the younger students' books. They can still interact in the same exact way and there are so many different ways you can use those interactive capabilities. Once again, this is not a page that you turn in for a gray. There's not a way in trove to send this in. We're in the e-reader, we're in the ebook. But you can see here, I could fill this out, we could do it together in front of the class. I could project this up or I could have students do it on their own in their book and I could walk around and check them or they could have a buddy check them.

Trove 기술 사양 및 접근성 (Trove Technical Details & Accessibility)

ust to clarify, trove is web-based by the way. So it is not partial to a particular device. You don't have to have such and such in order to be able to use trove. You just need internet connection. We are making apps available. These are iOS, Android, and desktop apps. Um, and with those apps you can use these books and these resources without internet capabilities. So if you want to work offline, you can do that. So all you have to do is download the book or the resource and then you can use it the next time you're connected. It will sync up all your bookmarks, highlightings, things like that for students. They can even do their assessments through the app. Now, just a note on that, they do need to be connected because assessments, when we talk about those, you'll see those more. Those are live, they do need that connectivity. But as far as books and resources, they can definitely do that offline.
참고로 Trove는 웹 기반입니다. 따라서 특정 기기에 국한되지 않습니다. I also, before we move away from eText, wanted to point out the accessibility features. We've some great accessibility features to help reach all learners. So first we do have text to speech. So at the top of the screen they can click to listen to the page. We have zoned our pages so it moves easily even with the boxes and creative elements we have. It even lets them know when there's an image it highlights as it reads, they can speed it up, slow it down, choose different voices, choose different colors, change out the font, colors, background colors, things like that. They could even use different tools such as a page mask, which kind of hides some of the busyness on the page and allows them to focus just on the text there. They can of course use the translation feature.

학생 기능 3: 과제 (Student Feature 3: Assessments)

So that was the library. Now let's look at assessments and by assessments, this could be homework, quizzes, tests, projects. You can see when you click on assessments, there are four main areas in assessments. So across the top there, first of all we have our due assessments. These are assessments that are waiting for the student to complete them. The missed area is when an assignment is late and the teacher has decided if they're late they can no longer access it. So then it moves to the missed category. Submitted shows different assessments that are waiting for teacher grading. And then the last area is the graded area. This is where students can always come to see what has been completed for them as far as evaluations. They can see their scores, they can see any comments from their teachers.

Let's see what it looks like to actually get into a student assessment. So for a student, they'd go up and click on assessment, find their assessment. By the way, if they started it previously it would say resume on there. So I'm gonna click on that again, I get an overview of kind of the specs of that assessment. If there is a time limit, it starts as soon as I hit that button and when the time's up it gathers any answers I've submitted and turns those in and that's all that goes in.

So let's look at the calendar. Teachers can create and share events. Now an event could be a deadline, a reminder, a test day. So when a student sees these, and again if it's for that day, it will show up on the right hand side. They can click on that and get any information that was shared with them about that item. If they are Google classroom users, the teacher can also indicate to add a Google meet link and the student would see that they're in the calendar.

And then let's explore notifications. So students receive notifications when they receive items such as resources being shared with them, assessments being assigned to them, um, a note from their teacher and all they have to do is click notifications and all of those will appear. So the student, when they see something like a resource or an assignment, they can actually click on that resource or on that assignment and be taken directly there.

And lastly, I want to point out the student support area. The help center is linked at the bottom of every page. So students can easily get there.

I want to go back to the teacher side and let you see where the magic happened. So how do we get it from here to there? Let's start with sharing resources. Now these are resources from the teacher library that they would like to share it with a student. The way we do this, see the share button in the upper left hand part of the library, I click that and it opens up the share menu. Then I select which resource I'd like to share, who should get it, and I set an expiration date. Now the purpose of the expiration date is to keep the students' library clean.

Now kind of along those same lines is sharing custom resources. So these are the resources that the teacher has made or found elsewhere and it and has added to the my uploads area. So this is again very easy, as you probably guessed. I'm going to go to the little menu. So I find the resource, go to that little three dot menu and click on it and it says share. When I click that, I will see any students that this resource has been previously assigned to. I can click on it to remove them or just add the new students groups or individual users.

Now what about distributing eTexts? You say, how do I get that out? So what you need to do is you need to go to the student eText and those are the ones that you share. When it comes to distributing eText, you're gonna have an additional filter that's been added on, and this is student eText and e assessments as well. So all I have to do is click on that and then I will see any books that have been assigned to me to give to my student.

No doubt, at some point you are going to accidentally assign a book to the wrong student or you're gonna have a student leave your class for whatever reason and you need to take back that e-text. Not a problem at all. So what you'll do as a teacher in your login... Go to share history, see it over there on the left hand side, it's under the little library tab. This is the history of everything you've shared with your students when it comes to e-text or e assessments. So if I need to change who it's assigned to, just go to the top and click unassigned there. You'll be able to select what book you'll be able to select what class group or individual students should lose the rights to that e assessment or e textbook.

another option you have as a teacher and that's called authoring. This authoring takes place in an e-text and it allows you to add an activity into their e-textbook. All right, so to do that you need to be in the student copy of the e-text. But if you want to author something into a student copy, you need to do it in a student copy. So once again, we're gonna go back to the filter. We're gonna click on student e-text. Now do you notice the authoring tool in the upper left hand corner? This is just for teachers. The students would not see this option. I can add a link, a document, I can post a video, I can record my own audio. I can ask them to make a recording. I can add photos, I can add text, I can even link to assessment activities right from here.

Alright, calendar items pretty straightforward. So you will create an event and then it shows up over there on the student side. So you're gonna click the name, the date, the day, the time, who, and then you can even add a Google meet if you use um, Google Classroom at your school.

Teachers can send notes to students. We call them notifications. Those can be sent to individual students to groups or to classes. As a teacher, if I wanna send it to a class, I'm gonna go to roster and class and go find that class that I want to send a notification to. Once I do that, I navigate all the way across and click on the notification bell. Then it's gonna bring up just a very basic text box. The second way I can do this is by sending it to an individual student. The last way that I can send a notification is to a group.

Alright, let's shift gears and talk about assessments and the assessment builder. How do we create and distribute assessments? Now there are three ways to create an assessment in trove. First of all, by using one of our 19 question types, super simple, click create new assessment, give it a name and then I can just start pulling up these questions. The second way that I can build an assessment is from a test bank or a question bank. And the third way is through publisher created resources. These are the questions that come out of the book. So they correspond directly to a book purchase.

Now we have 19 different question types that can be used to create assessments.
Choice Questions (Multiple/Single Choice): Typical multiple choice. Single choice has one right answer, multiple choice can have multiple.
Ordering: Putting things in a sequence.
Association: Standard matching.
Match the Following: A two-dimensional matching grid.
Fill in the Blanks (including Drop Down and Drag & Drop): Provides options for filling in blanks.
Descriptive: Open-ended, essay-style questions.
Comprehension: Questions that refer back to a provided passage or image.
Audio Recording: Students record their answer as audio.
Hotspot: Students click on the correct area of an image.
Drawing: Students draw their answer on a digital canvas, which can have a background image.
Drag and Drop Image: Students drag smaller images onto designated zones on a main background image.
Situational Judgment: A scenario-based question to collect subjective responses or rankings.
Label Image with Text: Students type text labels onto specific points of an image.
Highlighting (Highlight & Category Highlight): Students highlight specific words or phrases in a text. Category highlight allows for multiple categories (e.g., nouns in blue, verbs in yellow).
Graphing: Students can plot points or draw lines on a number line or a four-quadrant graph.
